Skin tags are not present at birth and their frequency increases with age. Skin tags can be observed in about 25% of adults. Studies have shown a genetic predisposition to the development of skin tags. Therefore, skin tags can run in families. However, even though these tags are not usually cause for any concern, you may want to remove them for cosmetic reasons. And if that’s the case, you’re in luck. We’ve got everything you need to know about skin tags, and how to get rid of them,  All covered here in this post!

A skin tag is medically termed an acrochordon. Sometimes, other terms have been used to refer to skin tags. These include soft warts
What are these skin tags actually :
A skin tag is a tiny, benign tumors out pouching of skin that is typically connected to the underlying skin by a thin stalk but don’t let the word “tumor” scare you – they’re usually completely harmless. Generally, they’re caused by skin rubbing against skin. Though tags can vary in size, they’re generally about the size of a grain of rice.

Where do these skin tags usually form :
Skin Tags look like tiny bits of "hanging" skin and typically occur in sites where clothing rubs against the skin or where there is skin-to-skin friction, such as the underarms, neck, upper chest, groin and eyelids.

Is It Normal to Have Them?

Skin tags are actually very common. In fact, nearly everyone will develop at least one skin tag in their lives. So if you’re frustrated with the development of these pesky tags on your skin, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Some people are definitely more prone to developing skin tags (middle-aged and elderly people who are obese are more likely to get these). But some people are just prone to them in general.

Before starting any thing make sure that what you are having are skin tags. My first advice all time is to visit a dermatologist to use scientific ways to remove the tags under their observation.

Remedies for Skin Tags:

Using Apple Cider Vinegar for Skin Tags

The acidity of apple cider vinegar is believed to break down the cells, causing them to shrink and fall off once its structure has been compromised. To use it, soak a cotton ball in vinegar and rub the liquid directly onto the acrochordon itself. You can either let it soak for several minutes before rinsing, or leave it on your skin to dry. You should do this 2 or 3 times a day, until it shrivels to the point of falling off naturally.

Tea Tree Oil :

For the safe removal of skin tags, you can’t go wrong with Tea Tree Oil. It is 100% natural and organic. It is used by many people because of its ability to safely and quickly remove them. The other advantage is that it’s so affordable.
This oil is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, and has many other natural medicinal properties, which makes it a great choice to safely remove a skin tag. You won’t have to risk getting any kind of infections or experience any pain or discomfort.

How to Apply Tea Tree Oil

It is easy to use, also. All that you have to do is to soak a small cotton swab with it, and gently apply it a few times a day. You may wish to cover the area with a band-aid to help with absorption, but this isn’t essential. In a few weeks, it will dry up, change color, die, and fall off on its own. It really is that easy.

Oregano oil :

Oregano oil contains thymol, arvacrol and p-cymene – three types of phenolic terpenoids components – and these have powerful antibacterial properties. They also contain antimelanomic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and antiseptic properties. This oil has the potential to quickly take care of skin tags and on average it takes about a month. Create a mixture of four to six drops of coconut oil and two to three drops of oregano oil and apply this directly to your skin tag three times a day. This should dry out the skin tag so that it falls off on its own. Make sure to always use a carrier oil to dilute the oregano oil or else you risk redness and irritation. This oil also must never be used near your eyes

Using Natural and organic products :

This juice can be used for a wide array of skin issues, including skin tags. Take a dandelion with the stem and extract the juice from the stem by squeezing it. A milky liquid comes out and you apply this liquid directly to the skin and then cover the area with a band-aid to keep it in place. Do this up to four times a day, making sure to thoroughly cleanse and dry the skin between applications. This works to dry out a skin tag so that it falls off. Do not use this remedy if you are allergic to daisies, marigolds, ragweed, chrysanthemums and other similar plants because there is a chance that if you are allergic to one of these you will also be allergic to dandelions.

Lemon juice:

Lemon juice is a powerful antiseptic and it also contains citric acid which helps to dry out skin tags by decomposing the cells. Take a half of a fresh lemon and apply the juice to a cotton ball. Apply this directly to the skin tag and leave it on without washing it off. You can apply this up to three times a day and continue the routine until the skin tag falls off.

Fig stem juice:

Fig stem juice is widely used for skin issues because it helps to balance the alkaline-acid balance. To create this juice, grab some fresh fig stems and blend them to extract the juice. You can apply this juice to the skin tag up to four times a day. On average, you will notice results within four weeks.

Fresh garlic has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties which help to improve skin health and dry out skin tags. You need four fresh garlic cloves and then ground these up into a paste and apply the paste directly to the skin. Place a bandage over this to keep the paste in place.

Nail Clippers and Rubbing Alcohol:
This one sounds a little painful, but has also been used to great effect. Make sure you sterilize your nail clippers before attempting this. Basically, you use the clippers to clip the clear skin on top of your skin tag. Then, take a rubbing alcohol-soaked cotton ball and apply to tag. Your tag may bleed a bit, but since there are no nerves in skin tags, it shouldn’t be too painful.

Dental Floss:
This method will temporarily block blood flow to the skin tag, eventually killing it completely. Just grab a piece of dental floss, tie it around the skin tag, and pull lightly. Don’t be too aggressive with this – you just want to pull little by little every day. After trying this for a couple of days, the color of the tag will start to change. And a few days after this, it should just dry up and fall off.
Skin Tag Myths That Just Aren’t True :

1.   The removal of skin tags will cause more tags to grow. .This is just false. If more tags grow in the area of removal, it just means that area is prone to skin tags. More growth has nothing to do with the removal process and there is always a chance to grow in different areas .
2.   Skin tags can be cancerous. Skin tags are benign growths and do not cause pain or damage. If you are having some pain with them however, you should of course consult your doctor or dermatologist.

3.   Skin tags only occur in elderly and obese people. Both Younger  and older people have the equal chances to develop them. Growing skin tags would be more about genetics than the friction caused by skin rubbing together.
